My Little Pony TCG Nightmare Night (Series 3): Card List, Rarities, Treat Tokens and Release Date

Nightmare Night is the third booster set of the English My Little Pony Trading Card Game, and the first one built on a story Hasbro wrote for the cards rather than an episode you have already seen. This guide covers what is in the set, how its 13 rarity tiers break down, the new Treat token rule, when it releases in Australia, and how it compares with Fantasy Wonderland and DISCORD!!!.

Everything here is about the English print (KAYOU item code MLP-KP-MYZY-003B-NA, card prefix BP03). A Chinese print has been out since late 2025 and shares the card numbers, so check the language before you compare anything.

What Nightmare Night is

Nightmare Night is Equestria's Halloween: costumes, candy, pumpkins and the legend of Nightmare Moon. KAYOU's third set takes that one night and builds a whole booster around it. Instead of adapting Season 2 episodes the way DISCORD!!! did, Hasbro wrote six new four-stage Story lines for the set, one for each of the Mane Six:

• Rarity and the Carousel Haunted House

Each story is the four-card ladder your Main Character climbs to win, so the theme is not decoration. It is the objective of every game you play with a Nightmare Night deck.

The cast widens too. Alongside the Mane Six, the Gold Rare tier carries Star Swirl the Bearded, Princess Luna, Nightmare Moon, Shining Armor and Princess Cadance. Silver Rares bring in Discord, Queen Chrysalis, King Sombra, Zecora, Mayor Mare and Spike, and the Commons and Uncommons add the Cutie Mark Crusaders, Big Mac, Granny Smith, Cheerilee, Daring Do, Ahuizotl, Flim and Flam. Nightmare Moon is the obvious character to chase: she has a Gold Rare, a Silver Rare and an Emerald scene of her own.

Card list and rarity ladder

The set runs to 190 card types across 13 tiers. Eight tiers form the base ladder, and the top five each have a Shining (※) parallel that shares the base card's number, so the ※ mark printed on the face is the only way to tell them apart.

Two things stand out against the first two sets. The base ladder is identical to Fantasy Wonderland and DISCORD!!!, which each had 191 types, and the only difference is one fewer Shining Gold: the published list shows no ※ version of the Nightmare Moon Gold Rare. Whether that is a real omission or a gap in the early list will be settled when English boxes are opened, and we will update this page.

Events and items follow the theme. Trick or Treat, Candy Tasting, Pumpkin Chucking, Spider Toss and Apple Bobbing are among the Sapphire events, and the items include a Candy Bag, a Candy Bowl and a Love Potion.

Pull rates

KAYOU has not published a Nightmare Night-specific ratio yet. For the first two sets the printed production ratio was the same: six packs in every 20 carry two Commons, two Uncommon or Sapphire cards and an Emerald, and the other 14 swap one of those for a single card from the Silver Rare up to Shining Ruby pool. Worked across a case, that put the Shining Ruby at one per 32-box case, the Shining Colorful at one per eight boxes, the Shining Sapphire at one per four boxes, and one Ruby Rare, one Shining Gold and one Shining Emerald in every box.

Nightmare Night uses the same five-card, 20-pack structure and the same tier list, so the sensible working assumption is the same ratio. We will replace this paragraph with KAYOU's printed figure once a box is in hand. Our Fantasy Wonderland guide has the full worked table.

Treat tokens: the new rule

Nightmare Night introduces the first new token type in the game. A Treat token is placed on a Character in your Adventure Area. On its own it does nothing. What matters is that several Nightmare Night characters and events check whether a Character is holding a Treat, and reward you when it is. A Character can hold one Treat at most, and the Treat is removed when that Character leaves the Adventure Area.

The rule is already written into KAYOU's Comprehensive Rules, version 1.3.0, which uses Nightmare Night cards in its worked examples. That means the English rulebook shipped ahead of the set, and there is no separate errata to learn. If you have the Friendships Begin rules card, Treats are the only new idea.

How the game plays, in one section

If you are coming to the game with this set, here is the shape of it. A deck is a 50-card Main Deck of Characters, Events and Items, a 15-card Scene Deck, four Story cards in stages one to four, and one Main Character card. You start with five cards in hand and put the top four cards of your Main Deck face down on your Story cards as Plans.

Each turn runs Starting, Main, Contact and End. Scenes are tapped to pay Force of Harmony, the cost of playing cards. In the Contact Phase your three Adventure lanes face your rival's three. Where you both have a Character, the higher Inspiration wins and the loser retires. Where only you have one, you take an action: promote your Main Character up the Story, or intervene on one of your rival's Plans to slow them down. You win by promoting your Main Character to the stage four Story card, or when your rival has to draw from an empty Main Deck. A game takes about 20 to 30 minutes.

A booster contains no rules and no ready-made deck. If nobody in the house plays yet, start with a Friendships Begin starter deck and add Nightmare Night boosters to it.

How Nightmare Night compares with Fantasy Wonderland and DISCORD!!!

All three sets play together, and all three use the same 20-pack box and 13-tier ladder. The differences are in the source material and the cast. Fantasy Wonderland introduced the Mane Six and the six core locations from Season 1. DISCORD!!! made Discord deck-buildable for the first time and drew its scenes from Season 2 episodes. Nightmare Night is the first set with an original story, the first with Nightmare Moon, Luna, Chrysalis and Sombra in the card pool, and the first with a token mechanic.

For collectors, the pattern from the first two sets is that the six Shining Ruby Mane Six lead every set's market, followed by the Shining Colorfuls, and that early prices settle over the first two months as supply catches up. Release date in Australia

The English print reaches North American shops on 25 September 2026. KAYOU's Australian distributor releases it here on 2 October 2026, a week behind, which is the same gap the first two sets had. Things that are easy to get wrong

It is not the Friendship Eternal line. KAYOU also makes My Little Pony collectible cards with no gameplay, and some of those have Halloween themes. Nightmare Night the booster set is Booster Pack 03 of the trading card game, card code BP03, and it only plays with the other TCG sets. Our series explainer walks through the difference.

There is no first edition. Cards carry a small print-batch mark, and some sellers describe the earliest batch as first edition. KAYOU does not sell a separate first-edition product, and every sealed English box in this release is the same thing.

The Chinese print shares the numbers. BP03-RR01 is the same card number in both languages, and plenty of listings never state which print they are. English boxes carry the MLP-KP-MYZY-003B-NA item code.
