tokidoki After Dark Series Guide: Masquerade, Skeleton, and the Numbered Series

If you have seen "after dark unis" on TikTok this month, or a skeleton Unicorno glowing on someone's shelf on Reddit, you have run into tokidoki After Dark at a busy moment. Two sets landed in the same window: After Dark Masquerade, with magnetic masks, and After Dark Skeleton, with a glow-in-the-dark figure and a flocked one. On top of that came an online exclusive called Spooks and a run of case-duplicate complaints that got tokidoki to put its packing policy in writing.

This guide sorts it out, from the numbered series through both 2026 sets to what an Australian collector can get without ordering from the US. Where something comes from collectors rather than tokidoki's own product pages, we say so.

What After Dark Is, and Where It Sits Under Unicorno

Unicornos are tokidoki's flagship character family, the winged unicorns that have anchored its blind boxes since April 2011. tokidoki releases them two ways: numbered main series (Series 1 through Series 12 so far), and named themed sets alongside them, such as Spa Day and Pixie Dust Fairy. After Dark is a sub-line within that structure, not a separate family. The theme is consistent across every release: the familiar Unicorno body, dressed in something darker. Ghosts, jesters, serpents, skeletons, masks, and packaging that has TikTok captions talking about "opening a tokidoki coffin".

One thing to be clear on up front: After Dark is a Unicorno line, not a Mermicorno one. That got muddled in early chatter around the Skeleton drop because one Skeleton figure, Sirena, carries a Mermicorno name. More on her below.

The Numbered After Dark Series in Order

After Dark started as a numbered series running parallel to the main Unicorno numbering. The first entry has the firmest record: Unicorno After Dark Series 1 was announced for fall 2020, with six designs and a chaser named Blair. That is smaller than the usual nine or ten.

Beyond that, tokidoki has published little. Its own Unicorno page names After Dark 1 and 2, and The Toy Pool, the collector database most people use for checklists, lists After Dark 1 to 5 as numbered series. We have not been able to verify design counts, chasers, or dates for Series 2 through 5 from tokidoki's pages, so we are not going to invent them.

What we can say with confidence is that the 2026 releases do not continue that numbering. Masquerade and Skeleton are named sets under the After Dark banner, the same way Spa Day is a named Unicorno set, and "After Dark Series 6" is not a thing as far as tokidoki's listings go.

After Dark Masquerade, Figure by Figure

After Dark Masquerade is the more elaborate of the two sets. Each figure is a standard 70 mm Unicorno in a masquerade costume, and each comes with a magnetic mask plus a small stand to display the mask on when it is off the figure. tokidoki describes flocking, transparent parts, and metallic details across the set.

The chaser is Majestic Phantom, at tokidoki's printed 1 in 48. Everything else is a common, and a case of eight cannot hold all nine designs.

Majestic Muertos has become the favourite outside the chaser. A collector on r/Tokidoki posted theirs on a Dia de los Muertos altar, and the comments were mostly people wanting that one figure. The sealed set is on our tokidoki Unicorno Masquerade blind box page.

After Dark Skeleton, Figure by Figure

After Dark Skeleton generated most of the noise in late August and September 2026. tokidoki's pitch is that it brings favourite Unicornos back as skeletons, and several names are lifted from the earliest Unicorno series.

Two figures carry the gimmicks. Kaijucorno glows in the dark. Midnight is flocked, meaning the vinyl has a velvety fuzz over it, and collector threads ("midnight is so cute") suggest it is the one people go back for. The chaser is Sirena, and this is the detail that trips people up. Sirena was originally the first Mermicorno, the mermaid-tailed branch of the family, debuting alongside Unicorno Series 4 in 2015. Special Editions, Chasers, and the Spooks Online Exclusive

Three different words get used for "the rare one", and getting them straight stops you paying chaser prices for a figure that was sold openly.

Chasers are the rarest figure inside the blind box run. You cannot buy one on purpose; it arrives at the printed 1 in 48 ratio. Majestic Phantom and Sirena are the chasers here.

Special editions are single figures sold openly, in their own box, with no blind element. After Dark has two: Regal Carousella for Masquerade, and Caramelo for Skeleton, which tokidoki lists with glow-in-the-dark bones and floral elements at roughly 56 mm, a little smaller than the blind box figures. A special edition is not part of the nine-figure set, and its scarcity depends on how many were made, not on a ratio.

Online exclusives are a third thing. Spooks is an After Dark Unicorno that collectors reported on 27 August 2026 as an online exclusive from tokidoki's official store, described in that thread as a recolour releasing "at the same time as the after dark" sets. By 13 September it no longer appeared on tokidoki's own site. It is not in either blind box, it is not a chaser, and it never reached local retail.

The September 2026 Duplicate-Case Episode

For years the working assumption on r/Tokidoki has been that a sealed case of eight holds most of the commons with perhaps one swap. Then the After Dark Skeleton cases arrived. In September 2026, three high-traffic threads reported cases ordered directly from tokidoki with three or more duplicates, and one of them, titled "Dupes Update", posted tokidoki's emailed reply in full.

That reply is the closest thing to a written policy the community has. tokidoki pointed to the line it prints in the product details of every blind box, which says in plain terms that ordering a case does not promise you a case free of duplicates. It went on: "Cases are normally packed so that customers receive a variety of blind boxes and we will continue to pack our blind box cases in this way", confirmed that some After Dark Skeleton cases "contain more duplicates than normal", and added, "We have not made any changes to our policy or to the way we pack our blind box cases." It declined to send the specific missing figures but did send extra sealed boxes as a goodwill gesture.

So a case of eight is eight random boxes with a packing pattern that is usually, but not always, varied. It is not a set, and it never came with a chaser attached. If you just want nine figures on a shelf rather than the opening itself, singles and trading are often the calmer route.

How After Dark Chasers Trade

Chaser trading on r/Tokidoki runs on a loose tier system rather than fixed prices, and the shorthand is worth learning before you post. ISO means "in search of", UFT is "up for trade", UFS is "up for sale", and the bracketed country codes at the start of a title tell you where the poster will ship. Most After Dark trade posts are US to US, so read the brackets before replying from Australia.

Within that system, the After Dark chasers sit in the top tier for current releases. In the weeks after the drop we saw Sirena listed as an ISO by several collectors, one of whom offered Majestic Phantom in trade for her, so the two are treated as roughly equal. Below the chasers, the gimmick commons (Midnight, Kaijucorno, Majestic Muertos) trade above the rest of their sets, and the ordinary commons move one for one: a typical post offered a Skeleton Dolce for any of Fumo, Stellina, Tokimeki, Midnight, or Kaijucorno.

Two habits keep you out of trouble: verify the figure against the box insert before trading, because chaser names get misremembered, and remember that a special edition or an online exclusive is not a chaser, however a listing describes it.

What Reaches Australia

Most of the retail chatter around After Dark is American. Hot Topic, Barnes and Noble, BoxLunch, and GameStop are the US chains collectors name, and the street-date confusion in those threads is a US retail problem. tokidoki's own online store, where Spooks and the special editions live, ships from the US, so an Australian buyer pays international postage and waits.
