Both sets are KAYOU collectible cards built on Simone Legno's tokidoki characters. There is nothing to play: you open packs, sort by rarity, and build a set or a display. That matters because the two series differ in exactly the things a set builder cares about: card count, tier list, and box size.

OR dropped

Series 1 had 12 tiers, and one of them, OR, contained exactly 1 card. KAYOU's official Series 1 listing counts it alongside SP, QR, XR and BP in the premium slot of the rarer pack type. Collectors usually expand OR as "Origin Rare", though KAYOU only spells out a few tier names in English, so treat that as community shorthand.

The Series 2 tier list runs R, SR, SSR, UR, MR, TR, CR, SP, QR, XR, BP. OR is not there. That is why Series 2 counts 11 tiers instead of 12, and why a Series 1 OR card is a genuine oddity: a one-card tier that exists in one set only.

The English-edition angle

Here the sourcing gets softer. Collectors on r/Tokidoki report that OR was created for the English (NA) edition of Series 1 and does not appear in the Chinese print, and describe it as easier to pull than QR, XR or BP but still a keeper. KAYOU has not confirmed the English-only claim in writing, so file it under "collectors report". Either way, an OR card has to come from Series 1.

The tiers that moved, and the ones that stayed

KAYOU's official pages give the count for every tier in both series. Series 1 spreads its 157 cards as R 32, SR 24, SSR 16, UR 16, MR 16, TR 12, CR 12, SP 8, QR 8, XR 8, BP 4, with OR 1 on top. Series 2 keeps every one of those counts except three.

So the four extra cards are one SSR and four XRs, less the single OR. The Series 2 chase cards sit in the same top tiers with a new twist: the XR tier is twelve dated birthday cards, one per month, which is why so many recent pack-opening posts are people finding their own birthday. KAYOU's official Series 2 page names the BP theme "World Tour"; retailer listings add that there are only 9 serial-numbered BP sets and describe a US-exclusive SSR "New York City walk" card serial-numbered to 2026; KAYOU's page does not designate either, so treat those as retailer claims. Series 1's US-exclusive card was Yuma.

Artwork and theme: the two Roaming Editions

Both sets carry the Roaming Edition name and both are drawn by Simone Legno. The difference is where the characters are roaming.

Series 1 is a travel set organised around the four seasons. The packs come in four seasonal designs, the BP tier is a "Four Seasons Parade Train" panorama that runs across cards, the XR "Romantic Adventure" cards pair two characters, and the QR tier is a "Peking Opera Adventure" line. Reviewers describe the finishes as foil, gold stamping, holographic elements and anti-counterfeit details.

Series 2 moves the characters into the city: city strolls, street graffiti and spring concerts, with vintage circus posters, dual-card graffiti pieces and transparent floral cards among the card styles. KAYOU's official page names the QR tier "Journey to the West" and runs Spring Concert, Seasonal Blossoms and Street Graffiti themes across the other tiers. It is a looser, more urban look, the transparent cards are a new format for the line, and collectors opening Series 2 report Mermicornos among the characters for the first time, alongside the Unicornos, Moofia, Donutella and SANDy.

Both series put 8 cards in a pack. The box is where they differ.

KAYOU's official listing for Series 1 gives 24 packs per box and 8 boxes per carton. Collectors also report smaller 12-pack retail boxes of Series 1 in the US, which we have not confirmed as an official configuration, so check the pack count on any sealed Series 1 box before you compare.

Series 2 boxes hold 12 packs of 8 cards, so 96 cards per box, and KAYOU's official Series 2 page gives 16 boxes per carton. That means a carton holds 192 packs either way (24 by 8 or 12 by 16); the product was repacked into smaller boxes, not reduced. • A 12-pack Series 2 box gives you 96 cards against a 161-card set. One box cannot complete a set even with zero duplicates, and every box-opening thread we have read mentions duplicates.

Which should you collect?

Both are valid. It depends on what you are trying to do.

Series 1 is the complete-set target. It is finished, the card list is known, the tier counts are public, and it has the one-off OR tier. If you like a defined checklist with a known end point, Series 1 is the cleaner project. The trade-off is that you are buying singles and hunting sealed boxes second-hand rather than opening fresh product.

Series 2 is the live set. It is the one you can open sealed, the one the community is actively pulling and trading, and the one with the dated XR birthday cards. The tier counts are official, but there is no name-by-name checklist, so you are building the list alongside everyone else.

Get both if you collect tokidoki rather than a single set. The two series share a cast and an artist, and the parallel tiers were designed as a pair. A Series 1 Parade Train BP beside a Series 2 World Tour BP tells a better story than either on its own.
